Widely recognized as one of the world’s leading high performance engineering organizations, Prodrive and Aston Martin Racing rely on highly sophisticated engineering software for their race design and development programs. Annual licensing for these software applications represents a significant cost to the organization, with some individual licenses valued at more than £100,000 per annum. One such software application, a specialized computer-aided design (CAD) tool, was licensed on a concurrent user basis. The Prodrive CIO suspected this usage was less than suggested by the vendor, and thus deployed Dtex to investigate. Dtex was able to provide actual data on concurrent usage, providing the CIO with the evidence required to renegotiate the CAD licensing contract for significant annual savings. While IT asset utilization was the key requirement for Prodrive, the security benefits offered by Dtex were a welcome value-add.
