On February 23, 2021 DTEX was excited to join a group of industry experts and distinguished guests in the launch of the Insider Threat Centre of Excellence at the Australian Cyber Collaboration Centre. In attendance was Nicole Moore, a Counter Insider Threat Analyst on the DTEX team, who shares highlights from the events of the day.
The launch of the Insider Threat Centre of Excellence (“Centre”) at the Australian Cyber Collaboration Centre (“A3C”) was a day the cyber community is not soon to forget. Starting with a tour of Lot Fourteen, a select group of distinguished guests representing multiple levels of government, industry and research were lead through to the A3C Cyber Test Range where DTEX’s Rajan Koo and Jamie Lindsay introduced a group of students to the DTEX InTERCEPT Platform and led them through an investigation. Josh Schwarz from Splunk provided an overview of DTEX and Splunk’s integration to provide customers with more visibility.
To announce the Centre, Mohan Koo (DTEX Co-Founder and CTO) addressed the Range and introduced the Centre as the first of its kind in the world. The Centre will be a place for specialist training to up-skill the cyber workforce and place those candidates into positions with some of the most prominent players in the cyber and insider threat space.
With the tour complete, it was back at Stone & Chalk for the Panel: Uplifting Australia’s Cyber Security Resilience, an event that DTEX was proud to build and hosted. The Honourable Premier Steven Marshall opened the event, addressing the role South Australian innovation is playing in increasing cyber resilience, skills and awareness. Tobias Feakin, Ambassador for Cyber Affairs and Critical Technology, led talks around the collaboration message.
With a heavy-hitting panel that included the Australian Cyber Security Centre (ACSC), MITRE, Telstra, Splunk, The Cyber Security CRC and the FBI, discussions ranged from making cyber accessible and affordable for SMEs to how we, as an industry, are best placed to champion legislative change in an age of misinformation. Highlights included Mitre Corporation’s Dr Deanna Caputo discussing the results of a large scale research project to map and identify insider threat actors and behaviors when given a “get out of jail free” card, and the ACSC doubling down on uplifting the Joint Cyber Security Centres’ capabilities and prominence around the country.
Slightly over time thanks to some great questions from attendees, it was off to the Round Table Discussion: Uplift Program for Australia’s SMEs and InT Centre of Excellence, where focus was on how to action the points raised through the day, building further collaboration and discussing where do we go next.
All in, you can see it was a day full of great learning, networking and fostering of new ideas. I personally can’t wait to see the Centre evolve as more people get involved with the mission of improving cyber security resilience around the globe.
